- Color is Black & Gray (salt & pepper) and many times will have a yellowish tint
- Black mask around its eyes
- Weight will vary:
- males up to 30 pounds
- females average 10-17 pounds
- Breeding takes place in January and February but can be as late as into June
- Gestation is about 60-64 days
- Most litters are born in April and May but some may be born later depending on when the female was bred.
- Only one litter of young is born each year.
- Litters can range from 1 to 6 but typically an average litter size is between 3 and 5.
- Eyes open at 3 weeks of age
- Weaned at 6-8 weeks
- Set off on their own but some may stay with female until following spring
- Will gain access to your home by:
- chimneys
- roof vents
- attic fans
- soffits and fascias
- tearing up roof shingles and making a hole in the roof
- Once inside home they will raise many families
- Damage they will cause once inside home:
- tearing up insulation
- tearing up electrical conduit & wiring
- tearing up plumbing
- urinate & defecate in designated toilet areas, which will seep into the insulation & ceiling drywall causing a strong odor and apparent stains
- urine & feces contamination - POSE HIGH HEALTH RISK!
- Eventually will work their way into the living space of your home.
- If not attended to, it can create financial and health issues.
- Damage outside the home:
- lawns and landscaping by rolling up sod and digging for grubs
- Nocturnal.
- Omnivorous, eats both plant and animal foods.
- Diseases:
